BLM windows baltimore

BLM Windows Baltimore is a community art project aimed at furthering the BLM message, and raising funds and support for black advocacy organizations. Custom, hand painted BLM designs are painted into the windows of homes and business in exchange for donations to local and national BIPOC organizations.

What Makes This project special

It began with a piece of cardboard that said “Black Lives Matter” and was held at a BLM rally in Baltimore in 2020. That sign ended up in a window, where it blocked the light and as a result was eventually replaced with a more permanent, prettier, and eye catching solution: a window painting! One neighbor after another wanted one of their own, and pretty soon the number of requests were overwhelming, and were perfectly leveraged into a trade of services for donations to BLM orgs.

At its surface, the BLM Windows project was simply designed to be an outward facing message to the world, and to do so in a way that highlighted the beauty of that message. But it grew to have a life of its own, and ended up doing so much more than was ever expected. Not only did this project help to paint the BLM message across the city, but is estimated to have raised over $10,000 for black advocacy organizations. The @blmwindowsbaltimore platform grew enough that it was utilized as a tool to highlight local BIPOC business owners and creators. It helped created connections and foster safe spaces.

BLM Windows Baltimore was only able to start, thrive, and accomplish any of these achievements because of the overwhelming and enthusiastic support of the Baltimore community- from the residents and business owners who participated, to the many artists who lent a hand. It’s an amazing city, and Kait K Designs is proud to be a part of it.
